Connie Morgan - Therapist That Became a Writer

Book Review: The Wedding People by Alison Espach caused quite a lively discussion for the Camas book club I attended. The story is about Phoebe Stone, who books the only room left in a gorgeous boutique hotel. The rest of the hotel is rented for the week to the wedding party of Lila and Gary. Lila, the bride, has planned out an expensive and elaborate full week of activities for the wedding party. When Phoebe discloses her plans to kill herself to Lila on the first day of the wedding events, Lila is furious. While confronting Phoebe, Lila candidly discloses her feelings about the groom’s family’s disdain for her and the amount of money she is spending on the wedding. As an odd relationship develops, Phoebe decides against suicide. While Phoebe observes and interacts with the wedding party, her life becomes transformed. Phoebe reexamines her past and opens herself to who she could be in the future. Lila eventually names Phoebe as her substitute maid of honor. Phoebe takes her position seriously…even though she has fallen for the groom.
