THE MESSY LIFE OF JANE TANNER by Brenda Novak. This book is about a woman’s quest to become a mother. Her clock is ticking, and she doesn’t see many options for herself in the situation she is in. Besides the story being a romance (friend to lover) the story covers themes of faulty perceptions, closing yourself off to possibilities, keeping desires hidden for fear of judgement, and finally, Jane learns it’s okay to make your own happiness a priority. The protagonist, Jane Tanner, wants a child above all else and believes nonconventional means of accomplishing her goal will be the only way. Her biggest fear is what her small town might think of her choice.
